Riding Season is Here!
Well, I just finished helping Icon get his bike going. I stood in my driveway listening to the roar of his pipes and he pulled away. What a sound! He’s catching up with a few more of our guys who are parked outside of a restaurant having breakfast before riding over to Snake’s Swap Meet. I’m going to catch up to them shortly – and yes, will be riding.
For those who don’t ride, it’s difficult to explain just how exciting it is to finally get your bike out. Yes, some of you live in an area that you can ride year round (I’m moving somewhere like that at some point in my life!). But for those of us here in Ottawa, we need to wait. Some will wait until after the sweepers come out and wash the sand off the roads. Others of us just can’t wait that long. So we jump on our bikes, get in a few hours when we can, and wish that Global Warming would hurry up and just take away all this evil snow (okay, KIDDING!)
Riding my bike is one of the most spiritual experiences I have. When I’m on the open road, I feel God with me. Some would suggest that it might be the way I ride – I need more than an angel protecting me … the Big Guy has to do it himself! But really, for me, riding my bike, focusing on the world around me, enjoying the openness of not being in a cage (car), is simply … spiritual. Intense. Wonderful.
Okay … enough rambling … gotta go get on the bike!
What about you? Why does riding feel spiritual to you?
